This is a scenario where I am a marketing analyst of Dymatise. I am in the elevator with the CEO and founder, Mr. Ted Casey.
Me: Hello Mr. Ted, I am Rafi from the marketing department. How are you today?
Ted: Hey Rafi, I am doing well, thanks for asking; you good?
Me: That’s good to know; I am well too. I have been researching a few strategies and niches in the market to help us climb further ahead of the competition. My research includes emerging consumer trends, untapped markets, and a few high-potential product concepts. I believe my findings will be helpful to you.
Ted: Wow, that’s great to know, Rafi from the Marketing department?
Me: Yes, sir, that’s me.
Ted: I will have my secretary Grace reach out and arrange an appointment.
Me: Looking forward to it, have a nice day.
Ted: You too, buddy. Take it easy.
Why did I choose this approach?
Here, Mr. Ted is the most important man in the company; rather than wasting his time with unnecessary chit-chats or trying to sell myself, after a formal greeting, I went straight to the point. The very fact that I looked into his eyes, had a strong body image, and offered to share my research shows that I am confident, have faith in my work, and I am genuinely committed to the company since I am using my caliber to go beyond my assigned departmental tasks to help the company's growth further. When I get to my meeting, I will let my work continue the conversation and introduce my worth. People know us better when they see us in action rather than having to visualize how we are. Also, speaking about myself when I am too good will only make me seem arrogant/ boastful. I would instead show it.
